Carlos Sansone fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Daniel Gai having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in CHIVAS AFC's zone, Delmiro Lizardi stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Santiago Aztore came out of the goal and Delmiro Lizardi tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arturo Sal in the 29th minute of play forced Cienaguillas's goalkeeper Daniel Gai to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Carlos Sansone had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Donato Peru charged in rather forcefully in the 32nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Donato Peru the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After having played for 34 minutes, Carlos Sansone managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CHIVAS AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Carlos Sansone was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Arturo Sal in the 34th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Daniel Gai prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Carlos Sansone received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Arnulfo Bortzaioriz took the ball and in the 47 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Santiago Aztore. Santiago Aztore dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Arnulfo Bortzaioriz made a kick off. Carlos Sansone sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Marcelo Egun hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. Daniel Gai made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arturo Sal in the 60th minute of play. Arnulfo Bortzaioriz blasted a shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Santiago Aztore having to make a save. Delmiro Lizardi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Santiago Aztore having to interfere. Samuel Veronica kicked well hit freekick during the 70th minute of the match. The audience cheered loudly when Jorge Quin's long shot in the 71st minute became 2-2 when the ball went to the left of and passed Daniel Gai. When Carlos Sansone came up free with the goalie in the 74th minute, the CHIVAS AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlos Sansone couldn't finish the play. Virgilio Raymundo charged in rather forcefully in the 77th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Cienaguillas's Daniel Gai proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 96th minute of the match, managed to save Cienaguillas from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, Cienaguillas's Daniel Gai got control of the ball when Carlos Sansone tried to sneak it across the goal line. Delmiro Lizardi's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Santiago Aztore read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 103rd minute of play. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Cienaguillas fans cheered their team off the field, for while CHIVAS AFC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
