Shao Jing Yuan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hernan Matxin, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. 15 minutes into the match, Tafna's goal looked a bit too open when Romulo Lalla came free, but Clay Thacker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Clay Thacker stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Roque Roso's shot from short distance in the 17th minute. 23 minutes into the game, Romulo Lalla cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Clay Thacker was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. From a short distance, Tafna's Hernan Matxin, in the 30th minute, tried to place the ball behind Shao Jing Yuan, but the ball hit the right post on the wrong side and went out. Clay Thacker took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Romulo Lalla, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The Santa Fe fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. 42 minutes into the game, Romulo Lalla cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-4. Clay Thacker was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Roque Roso made a kick off. Clay Thacker made an important save on a dangerous shot by Roque Roso in the 53rd minute.
