Club Deportivo Olimpia's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Motagua the free kick. In the 7th minute, Camilo Bentos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 11th minute, Eraldo Díaz got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to Club Deportivo Olimpia getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Abraham Alferez hit a great ball. Marcos Ribeiro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ismael Alferez, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. After a rather tough play, Motagua's Jorge Meza got a free kick in the 22nd minute. After 25 played minutes Motagua got a freekick which was hit by Wilber Noyola. Camilo Bentos's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Manuel Alfaro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 27th minute of play. Yasir Torres sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Pedro Hidalgo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcos Ribeiro having to interfere. Marcos Ribeiro came out of the goal in the 32nd minute to try and stop a shot by Motagua's Eraldo Díaz. But to his dismay, Eraldo Díaz quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. A collision led to Club Deportivo Olimpia getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Abraham Alferez hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Yasir Torres in the 38th minute of play forced Motagua's goalkeeper Manuel Alfaro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eraldo Díaz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Marcos Ribeiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Abraham Alferez fell near the penalty area in the 42nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club Deportivo Olimpia's protests and gave Abraham Alferez a yellow card for diving instead. Abraham Alferez kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. The supporters of Club Deportivo Olimpia booed when Motagua was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alvaro Duarte didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 49 minutes Motagua's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Libardo Umaña who took care of the corner kick. After taking down the ball on Club Deportivo Olimpia's corner Libardo Umaña fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Manuel Alfaro quite easily take care of the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Eraldo Díaz made a kick off. In the 54th minute, Ovidio Figueroa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Club Deportivo Olimpia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Yasir Torres was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Motagua's zone, Yasir Torres stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Manuel Alfaro came out of the goal and Yasir Torres tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Motagua's Manuel Alfaro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Elias Messias in the 77th minute of play. Manuel Alfaro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Elias Messias in the 80th minute of play. Manuel Alfaro came out of the goal in the 94th minute to try and stop a shot by Club Deportivo Olimpia's Yasir Torres. But to his dismay, Yasir Torres quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1.
