Wilmer Machado showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. Azerbaiyan's Miguel Rico played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Waldir Henriquez in the 15th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Waldir Henriquez in the 18th minute of play forced Azerbaiyan's goalkeeper Miguel Rico to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Miguel Rico made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Waldir Henriquez in the 20th minute of play. In the 21st match minute, Azerbaiyan was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cesar Campos to maneuver through the defense. 26 minutes into the match, Worcester's goal looked a bit too open when Marcelo Ruiz came free, but Shawn Barrera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Cesar Campos during the 51st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ricardo Torres's late challenge caught a Azerbaiyan's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
