Pablo Carranza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mauro Fornos, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. In the 22nd minute, Claudio Figueroa made a precise shot to the right of Pablo Carranza. Thanet's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Fabio Cruz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Cabrera, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 31 minutes into the match, Marathón's goal looked a bit too open when Luis Cabrera came free, but Fabio Cruz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fabio Cruz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Cabrera in the 34th minute of play. Pablo Carranza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mauro Fornos in the 36th minute of play. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Luis Cabrera was the one to do the kick off. Mauro Fornos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Pablo Carranza tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Claudio Figueroa struck a weak shot in the 57th minute. Pablo Carranza didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Marathón. In the 58th match minute, Thanet was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hugo Rey to maneuver through the defense. 59 minutes into the match, Mauro Fornos dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Pablo Carranza, 0-3. After a rather tough play, Thanet's Patricio Melendez got a free kick in the 65th minute. Carlos Orobio, 65 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. After 68 minutes, Yasir Rey mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Marathón and the Thanet players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Marathón's Yasir Rey got a free kick in the 68th minute. Fabio Cruz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Cabrera in the 75th minute of the match. Mauro Fornos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Félix Fornos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 85th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Félix Fornos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabio Cruz having to interfere. The Marathón supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Marathón would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
