Ronald Jimenez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Omar Ruiz in the 11th minute of play. 0-1 became the score in the 16th minute when Ladislao Carranza elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. After 20 played minutes Sandown City got a freekick which was hit by Victor Viscarra. Omar Ruiz blasted a shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ronald Jimenez having to make a save. East Grinstead United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Omar Ruiz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Efrain Cortez was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 31st minute. Sandown City's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Ladislao Carranza's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ronald Jimenez read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 39th minute of play. In the 42nd minute, Ladislao Carranza ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ronald Jimenez was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Josue Ulloa was extremely unlucky when he, in the 46th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Sandown City's Efrain Cortez got a good chance for a goal in the 48th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Efrain Cortez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Josue Ulloa in the 58th minute of play forced East Grinstead United's goalkeeper Ulises Bonilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Omar Ruiz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronald Jimenez having to interfere. Ulises Bonilla came out of the goal and Efrain Cortez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Efrain Cortez received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Ulises Bonilla tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Efrain Cortez recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 74th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 76th minute, Victor Viscarra hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 78th minute Josue Ulloa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ulises Bonilla saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Efrain Cortez in the 85th minute of play forced East Grinstead United's goalkeeper Ulises Bonilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 87 minutes into the match, East Grinstead United's goal looked a bit too open when Efrain Cortez came free, but Ulises Bonilla reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Josue Ulloa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ulises Bonilla was relentless in the 89th minute of the game. The East Grinstead United supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing East Grinstead United would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
