In the 7thth minute of the game Amilcar Paredes who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Newport's Marcos Rivas was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Amilcar Paredes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 19th minute Amilcar Paredes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcos Rivas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 21st minute, Franklin Palencia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Edgardo Aguilar's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marcos Rivas read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. 28 minutes into the game, Marcelo Medrano cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Rafael Arellano was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 34 minutes, Franklin Palencia mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Clitheroe United and the Newport players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Clitheroe United's Franklin Palencia got a free kick in the 34th minute. If Edgardo Aguilar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marcos Rivas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Amilcar Paredes in the 38th minute of the match. Marcos Rivas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Amilcar Paredes in the 41st minute of play. 43 minutes into the game, Clitheroe United's Edgardo Aguilar nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Marcos Rivas made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. The Newport fans' excitement grew in the 48th match minute when Newport's Marcelo Medrano looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Danilo Cabrera stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Newport's zone, Edgardo Aguilar stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcos Rivas came out of the goal and Edgardo Aguilar tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Cristian Valenzuela fell near the penalty area in the 62nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Newport's protests and gave Cristian Valenzuela a yellow card for diving instead. Cristian Valenzuela hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. 68 minutes into the match, Newport's goal looked a bit too open when Edgardo Aguilar came free, but Marcos Rivas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Clitheroe United's Amilcar Paredes got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Edgardo Aguilar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcos Rivas having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Newport's zone, Amilcar Paredes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcos Rivas came out of the goal and Amilcar Paredes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Francisco Fernandez kicked well hit freekick during the 79th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Clitheroe United's zone, Salvador Carranza stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rafael Arellano came out of the goal and Salvador Carranza tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Edgardo Aguilar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marcos Rivas having to interfere. Marcelo Medrano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 97th minute, Clitheroe United's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Marcelo Medrano fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. The supporters of Newport booed when Clitheroe United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 98 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edwin Sifon didn't get a good kick on the ball. Marcelo Medrano struck a weak shot in the 99th minute. Rafael Arellano didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newport. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Newport walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
