The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a defensive mix-up in Santa Rita FC's zone, Otoniel Jara stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fabio Pinto came out of the goal and Otoniel Jara tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Alejandro Chavarria sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tulio Pinto's late challenge caught a Santa Rita FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Tulio Pinto helped the player get up and apologised. After 29 played minutes Limon AFC got a freekick which was hit by Tulio Pinto. If Alejandro Naranjo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 41 minutes into the match, Limon AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Alejandro Naranjo came free, but Franklin Ulloa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fabian Cespedes in the 47th minute of play forced Santa Rita FC's goalkeeper Fabio Pinto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Fabian Cespedes to strike the kick off in the second half. Anselmo Cordoba hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice moves Alejandro Naranjo could shoot a difficult shot in the 72nd minute, which Franklin Ulloa however easily saved by the left post. Alejandro Naranjo might have been able to make a better finish in the 76th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Franklin Ulloa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alejandro Naranjo ran back to his position shaking his head. With an all-out effort, Santa Rita FC's Franklin Ulloa threw himself towards the right post 77 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Alejandro Chavarria, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 78th minute, Salvador Romero hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
