Manuel Talamanca tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Olman Ulate fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Manuel Talamanca having to interfere. Perez Zeledon's Manuel Talamanca proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 23rd minute of the match, managed to save Perez Zeledon from getting a goal against them. In the 33rd minute, Vinicio Kamakiri got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If William Wanchope had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 42nd minute, Isidoro Leiton got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Leonel Echeverria might have been able to make a better finish in the 47th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Manuel Talamanca. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Leonel Echeverria ran back to his position shaking his head. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Alain Sanchez was the one to do the kick off. Manuel Talamanca made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vinicio Kamakiri in the 52nd minute of play. Vinicio Kamakiri fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Manuel Talamanca having to interfere. After some careless play in the Perez Zeledon defense, Leonel Echeverria kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Manuel Talamanca. The Perez Zeledon fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Manuel Talamanca should have stopped the shot. CD Juventud Hatillo's Ronald Ortega played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alain Sanchez in the 60th minute of play. Manuel Talamanca didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Vinicio Kamakiri went, in the 67th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-1 was the resulting score. CD Juventud Hatillo's Vinicio Kamakiri got a good chance for a goal in the 72nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Perez Zeledon's zone, Leonel Echeverria stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Manuel Talamanca came out of the goal and Leonel Echeverria tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to CD Juventud Hatillo getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Stanley Bejarano hit a great ball. 79 minutes into the game, CD Juventud Hatillo's Rafael Quiros nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Manuel Talamanca made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-1. After having played for 84 minutes, Leonel Echeverria managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CD Juventud Hatillo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leonel Echeverria was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 86th minute, Rafael Quiros made a precise shot to the right of Manuel Talamanca. Perez Zeledon's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 6-1. Leonel Echeverria fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Manuel Talamanca having to interfere. CD Juventud Hatillo's Ronald Ortega played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alain Sanchez in the 92nd minute of play. CD Juventud Hatillo walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
