The supporters of Alajuela booed when Liberia FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leo Peralta didn't get a good kick on the ball. Braulio Naranjo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Otto Ledezma tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 55th minute Roy Orozco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valentin Matos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alajuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Johan Elizondo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Roy Orozco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 78th minute the ball was on its way in behind Liberia FC's goalkeeper Otto Ledezma, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After having played for 80 minutes, Roy Orozco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal.
