Seating: 1809, VIP seats: 0) Ojochal's Alex Rivera started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Johan Elizondo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 6th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Braulio Naranjo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 24 minutes, Otton Aguilar mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ojochal and the Alajuela players grew even worse after the yellow card. Ojochal's Nery Obando played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Johan Elizondo in the 31st minute of play. 35 minutes in the game, Johan Elizondo fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Nery Obando having to interfere. Braulio Naranjo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Nery Obando tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With his leg Nery Obando managed to avoid a goal in the 48thth minute, when Alajuela's Johan Elizondo fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Johan Elizondo was the one to do the kick off. Alajuela's Valentin Matos proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 53rd minute of the match, managed to save Alajuela from getting a goal against them. When Adalberto Rosabal came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Ojochal fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adalberto Rosabal couldn't finish the play. In the 58th match minute, Alajuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wilbert Zamora to maneuver through the defense. 59 minutes into the match, Ojochal's Alexis Peña broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. After having played for 62 minutes, Adalberto Rosabal managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ojochal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Adalberto Rosabal was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Braulio Naranjo came up free with the goalie in the 64th minute, the Alajuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Braulio Naranjo couldn't finish the play. Adalberto Rosabal could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 70th minute of the match, but Valentin Matos made a huge save. Herberto Chaverri received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Valentin Matos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alex Rivera's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Valentin Matos read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 74th minute of play. Braulio Naranjo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nery Obando having to interfere. When Adalberto Rosabal came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Ojochal fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adalberto Rosabal couldn't finish the play. Nery Obando took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Braulio Naranjo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Johan Elizondo in the 87th minute of play forced Ojochal's goalkeeper Nery Obando to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Johan Elizondo in the 92nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nery Obando prevented the ball from getting in the gole.
