The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 9 minutes into the match, Liberia FC's goal looked a bit too open when Johan Elizondo came free, but Otto Ledezma reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Braulio Naranjos short, quick shot in the 11thth minute got Otto Ledezma to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 12th minute, Alajuela's Braulio Naranjo ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Otto Ledezma. Otto Ledezma yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. If Rex Contreras had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 18 minutes, Pedro Luna mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Alajuela and the Liberia FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Liberia FC booed when Alajuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro Luna didn't get a good kick on the ball. Johan Elizondo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Otto Ledezma having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Alajuela's Pedro Luna got a free kick in the 27th minute. Johan Elizondo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. If Roy Orozco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 41 minutes into the match, Alajuela's goal looked a bit too open when Rex Contreras came free, but Valentin Matos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rex Contreras took the ball and in the 43 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Valentin Matos. Valentin Matos dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Roy Orozco managed to get in a good position for a shot. Liberia FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Roy Orozco was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Valentin Matos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 54 minutes into the game, Alajuela's Braulio Naranjo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Otto Ledezma made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. In the 63rd minute Johan Elizondo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Otto Ledezma saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 64 minutes into the match, Braulio Naranjo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Otto Ledezma. Liberia FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Braulio Naranjo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. Santiago Perez hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. Roy Orozco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valentin Matos having to interfere. Alajuela's Valentin Matos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roy Orozco in the 77th minute of play. After having played for 78 minutes, Johan Elizondo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Alajuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Johan Elizondo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Roy Orozco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Valentin Matos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ruben Echeverria hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Alajuela's Johan Elizondo got a free kick in the 83rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Johan Elizondo in the 85th minute of play forced Liberia FC's goalkeeper Otto Ledezma to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Otto Ledezma took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Johan Elizondo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 87th minute, Santiago Perez had to leave the field with a concussion. Ruben Echeverria charged in rather forcefully in the 87th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ruben Echeverria the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play.
