Tres Rios's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Golfito AFC the free kick. After a defensive mix-up in Golfito AFC's zone, Inocencio Avila stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alfonso Calderon came out of the goal and Inocencio Avila tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 21 minutes, Paul Mata mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Golfito AFC and the Tres Rios players grew even worse after the yellow card. Paul Mata hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. After recieving a nice pass, Tres Rios's Chunche Redondo tried to score from far away in the 22nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the 27th minute, Chunche Redondo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 33rd minute, Tres Rios got a penalty, and Chunche Redondo placed the ball unsaveable into goal, by the right post. Inocencio Avila sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Paul Mata was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 43 minutes had been played. In the 45th minute, Herberto Burgos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Inocencio Avila to strike the kick off in the second half.
