In the 13th match minute, Heredia AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ricardo Naranjo to maneuver through the defense. 20 minutes into the game, Tuto Rivas was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Heredia AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Papaturros Porteños the free kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tuto Rivas got free with Rafael Cruz in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Israel Davila in the 41st minute of play forced Heredia AFC's goalkeeper Edwin Borbon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Papaturros Porteños defense, Tuto Rivas kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rafael Cruz. The Papaturros Porteños fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rafael Cruz should have stopped the shot. Nacho Bejaranos short, quick shot in the 48thth minute got Rafael Cruz to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The referee ignored Papaturros Porteños's protests and gave Chico Carvajal a yellow card for diving instead. Chico Carvajal kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. 69 minutes into the match, Papaturros Porteños's goal looked a bit too open when Tuto Rivas came free, but Rafael Cruz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Roy Jara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Heredia AFC's Tuto Rivas in 87 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Rafael Cruz guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. 97 minutes into the match, Heredia AFC's Tuto Rivas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rafael Cruz narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Papaturros Porteños were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Heredia AFC's much stronger midfield.
