The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 7 played minutes Heredia AFC got a freekick which was hit by Nacho Bejarano. Edwin Borbon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Manrique Varela in the 20th minute of play. In the 21st match minute, Uvita was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Manrique Varela to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Uvita's zone, Tuto Rivas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jesus Guevara came out of the goal and Tuto Rivas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 25 minutes into the game, Heredia AFC's Fidel Palma nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jesus Guevara made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Donald Sibaja fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Edwin Borbon having to interfere. Jesus Guevara showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fidel Palma, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. Fidel Palma struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Jesus Guevara didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Heredia AFC.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Fidel Palma to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fidel Palma in the 52nd minute of play forced Uvita's goalkeeper Jesus Guevara to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Uvita were awarded a corner in the 58th minute after Heredia AFC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Alfredo Sosa took the corner. Alfredo Sosa made a great header on Uvita's corner, it was just that Heredia AFC's Edwin Borbon managed to reach the ball for a save.
