After some fancy dribbling in the 19th minute, Julio Orozco managed to get in a good position for a shot. Arenal's supporters rose to their feet, but Julio Orozco was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ramon Mora breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 27th minute, Franklin Araya fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Victor Jarquin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Ramon Mora tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Felipe Arroyo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Franklin Araya could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Ramon Mora made a huge save. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Felipe Arroyo during the 45th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Coto Brus AFC's Felipe Arroyo got a free kick in the 45th minute.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Julio Orozco to make the kick off. Victor Jarquin charged in rather forcefully in the 53rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Victor Jarquin the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Julio Orozco in the 67th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ramon Mora prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Bryan Redondo struck a weak shot in the 70th minute. Vinicio Nuñez didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Coto Brus AFC. The supporters of Arenal booed when Coto Brus AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leonel Ayala didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Franklin Araya in the 79th minute of play forced Coto Brus AFC's goalkeeper Ramon Mora to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Diego Zamora's late challenge caught a Arenal's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Diego Zamora helped the player get up and apologised. After 80 played minutes Coto Brus AFC got a freekick which was hit by Diego Zamora. When Bryan Redondo came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the Coto Brus AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bryan Redondo couldn't finish the play. If Franklin Araya had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Arenal's Minor Jara suffered a concussion in the 95th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. Bryan Redondo hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. Coto Brus AFC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
