In the 9th minute Efren Fuentes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Javier Naranjo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Stanley Varela made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rene Bermudez in the 12th minute of play. Warner Mora sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rene Bermudez received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Stanley Varela tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Warner Moras short, quick shot in the 17thth minute got Stanley Varela to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. A collision led to Atenas FC getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Rolando Guardia hit a great ball. 19 minutes into the match, Rene Bermudez notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Atenas FC's Stanley Varela. Stanley Varela was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Bernie Solis charged in rather forcefully in the 27th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Bernie Solis the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Stanley Varela acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 28th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Milton Conejo. Efren Fuentes hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Atenas FC's Leo Portuguez got a free kick in the 33rd minute. Efren Fuentes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jose Amador's late challenge caught a Herradura's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jose Amador helped the player get up and apologised. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Warner Mora in the 55th minute of play forced Atenas FC's goalkeeper Stanley Varela to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Rene Bermudez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Warner Mora struck a weak shot in the 67th minute. Stanley Varela didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Herradura. Atenas FC's Efren Fuentes got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mikael Ortega got free with Javier Naranjo in the 75th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Javier Carvajal kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. If Mikael Ortega had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mikael Ortega struck a weak shot in the 83rd minute. Javier Naranjo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Atenas FC. After having played for 84 minutes, Bernie Solis managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Atenas FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bernie Solis was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Rene Bermudez's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Stanley Varela read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 88th minute of play. In the 90th match minute, Herradura was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Milton Conejo to maneuver through the defense. Efren Fuentes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Javier Naranjo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 93 played minutes Herradura got a freekick which was hit by Adrian Chaclar. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Herradura fans cheered their team off the field, for while Atenas FC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
