In the 6th minute Ronald Huetar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reinaldo Ramirez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Atenas's supporters rose to their feet, but Leonel Alpizar was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Reinaldo Ramirez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 18th match minute, Atenas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Elias Esquivel to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Los Chiles FC booed when Atenas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leonel Bermudez didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronald Huetar in the 25th minute of play forced Los Chiles FC's goalkeeper Reinaldo Ramirez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Leonel Alpizar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ronald Huetar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Reinaldo Ramirez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Reinaldo Ramirez stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ronald Huetar's shot from short distance in the 33rd minute. Reinaldo Ramirez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leonel Alpizar in the 34th minute of the match. In the 37th minute, Bernardo Saenz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 38 minutes, Leonel Alpizar managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Atenas's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leonel Alpizar was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Los Chiles FC's Rigoberto Godinez got a free kick in the 42nd minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Israel Molina managed to get in a good position for a shot. Los Chiles FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Israel Molina was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Romulo Lozano breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Leonel Alpizar stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 55 played minutes Los Chiles FC got a freekick which was hit by Alan Leiton. A collision led to Los Chiles FC getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Israel Molina hit a great ball. In the 60th match minute, Los Chiles FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Israel Molina to maneuver through the defense. Ronald Huetar's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Reinaldo Ramirez firmly grabbed it by the left post. After a defensive mix-up in Los Chiles FC's zone, Ronald Huetar stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Reinaldo Ramirez came out of the goal and Ronald Huetar tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 82nd minute, Atenas's Leonel Alpizar ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Reinaldo Ramirez. Reinaldo Ramirez yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bernardo Saenz in the 86th minute of play forced Atenas's goalkeeper Romulo Lozano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 87 minutes into the match, Los Chiles FC's goal looked a bit too open when Leonel Alpizar came free, but Reinaldo Ramirez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Leonel Bermudez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Reinaldo Ramirez having to interfere. In the 92nd minute of the match, Leonel Alpizar tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Reinaldo Ramirez saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Bernardo Saenz hit a great freekick 99 minutes into the match. The Atenas supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Atenas would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
