After 17 played minutes Jaco AFC got a freekick which was hit by Otto Campos. In the 34th match minute, Jaco AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Otilio Badilla to maneuver through the defense. Emmanuel Picado's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 44thth minute, Bernardo Villegas skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. After a rather tough play, ALAJUELENSE FC's Federico Segura got a free kick in the 45th minute. When Jesus Sandi came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the Jaco AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jesus Sandi couldn't finish the play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

ALAJUELENSE FC were awarded a corner in the 56th minute after Jaco AFC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Bernie Jara took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Bernie Jara got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Nery Marin quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Francisco Varela in the 59th minute of play forced ALAJUELENSE FC's goalkeeper Bernardo Villegas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Francisco Varela fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bernardo Villegas having to interfere. In the 94th minute Jesus Sandi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernardo Villegas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 95 minutes, Francisco Varela managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jaco AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Francisco Varela was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 98 played minutes Jaco AFC got a freekick which was hit by Emmanuel Picado.
