In the 4th minute, Jesus Heredia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ulises Sanchez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gilberto Obando, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ulises Sanchez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gilberto Obando in the 17th minute of play. In the 19th minute, Gilberto Obando got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 24 minutes into the match, Ave Fenix's goalkeeper Josue Talamanca had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Henry Chavarria. Ulises Sanchez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cid Leiton, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. 27 minutes into the game, Cid Leiton cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Ulises Sanchez was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Ulises Sanchez came out of the goal in the 31st minute to try and stop a shot by Ave Fenix's Gilberto Obando. But to his dismay, Gilberto Obando quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Gilberto Obando received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Ulises Sanchez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ave Fenix's Miguel Blen got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gilberto Obando sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After the first half Ave Fenix were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Darien Castillo to make the kick off. Reinaldo Lehman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Josue Talamanca tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Miguel Blen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to UIR Alajuela getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Stanley Navarro hit a great ball. In the 70th minute Gilberto Obando shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ulises Sanchez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jesus Heredia kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. Darien Castillo struck a weak shot in the 74th minute. Josue Talamanca didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for UIR Alajuela. Miguel Blen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Ulises Sanchez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The attack was good, but when Miguel Blen in the 82nd minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. After 87 played minutes Gilberto Obando rounded UIR Alajuela's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-4. In the 93rd minute Gilberto Obando shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ulises Sanchez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 95 minutes, Cid Leiton managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ave Fenix's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cid Leiton was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ave Fenix's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
