The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Keylor Borbon showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 27th minute, Paul Fonseca hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Buenaventura Naranjo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. With a little luck, Santa Ana's Johnny Hernandez got control of the ball when Buenaventura Naranjo tried to sneak it across the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Buenaventura Naranjo in the 40th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Johnny Hernandez prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Buenaventura Naranjo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 42ndth minute tested the skills of Johnny Hernandez when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 44th match minute, Nicoya was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Berny Santamaria to maneuver through the defense. Santa Ana's defense didn't have a chance, in the 47th minute, when Buenaventura Naranjo scored to the left of an out of position Johnny Hernandez, making the score, 2-0. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Francisco Nuñez stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Santa Ana's zone, Celso Mora stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Johnny Hernandez came out of the goal and Celso Mora tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Aurelio Solano hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. Berny Santamaria took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 56th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Johnny Hernandez. Santa Ana's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Johnny Segura hit a great freekick 57 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Emmanuel Montealegre in the 66th minute of play forced Santa Ana's goalkeeper Johnny Hernandez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. But to his dismay, Buenaventura Naranjo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. Celso Mora fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Johnny Hernandez having to interfere. Johnny Segura kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. 77 minutes into the game, Buenaventura Naranjo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-0. Johnny Hernandez was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Celso Mora had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in Santa Ana fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 92nd minute. Penalty! In the 94th minute there was a penalty for Nicoya. Berny Santamaria stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Johnny Hernandez. 5-0. The audience was convinced that Buenaventura Naranjo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Johnny Hernandez was relentless in the 98th minute of the game. Johnny Hernandez stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Buenaventura Naranjo's shot from short distance in the 100th minute.
