Teobald Podwojski succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-0 in the 5th playminute. Francisco Nuñez kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. Antonio Merino showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Johnny Segura in the 12th minute of the match. Wilbert Chinchilla fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Johnny Hernandez having to interfere. Johnny Hernandez stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Teobald Podwojski's shot from short distance in the 21st minute. Johnny Segura struck a weak shot in the 22nd minute. Antonio Merino didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Santa Ana. If Fabio Rivas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Antonio Merino showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Salvador Saborio in the 30th minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 35 minutes, Vicente Ruiz took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Johnny Hernandez to make any attempt to save it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Johnny Segura in the 39th minute of play forced Sport Herediano Frances's goalkeeper Antonio Merino to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Santa Ana getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Donald Contreras hit a great ball. Francisco Nuñez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Antonio Merino having to interfere. Johnny Hernandez stood somewhat misplaced when Teobald Podwojski came free in front of goal and shot 3-0 to the left of him in the 48 minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Teobald Podwojski stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Sport Herediano Frances were furious when Vicente Ruiz was red carded, 56 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The referee gave Santa Ana a penalty, 59 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Donald Contreras, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Sport Herediano Frances's Antonio Merino. 3-1. Teobald Podwojski recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Johnny Hernandez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Teobald Podwojski in the 77th minute of play. Teobald Podwojski's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Johnny Hernandez read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 84th minute of play. Teobald Podwojski received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Johnny Hernandez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 90th minute, Teobald Podwojski ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Johnny Hernandez was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-2.
