Sporting Cristal's Neto Romano got a good chance for a goal in the 14th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 16th minute the ball was on its way in behind Salitre's goalkeeper Arixo Arrazola, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The referee felt a red card was in order, 18 minutes into the game, when Magdaleno Gilavert put in a rough tackle. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 17th minute of the game. One of Salitre:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Sporting Cristal:s goal. The goalkeeper, Arixo Arrazola, was totally fooled by Sporting Cristal's Henric Cardillo, who 20 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. In the 24th minute Neto Romano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arixo Arrazola saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Neto Romano spun around in front of the goal 28 minutes in the game and got away a good shot, but Arixo Arrazola grabbed the ball before it went up in top right corner. An unexpectedly hard shot by Neto Romano in the 29th minute of play forced Salitre's goalkeeper Arixo Arrazola to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kepa Quintero sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Neto Romano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Arixo Arrazola tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Menendo Rebustillo's late challenge caught a Sporting Cristal's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Menendo Rebustillo helped the player get up and apologised. Menendo Rebustillo kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ladislao Ricoy stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Arixo Arrazola made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Agustin Fitado in the 51st minute of play. Kepa Quintero struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Basajaun Valencina didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Salitre. Sporting Cristal's Ladislao Ricoy got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 77 played minutes Salitre got a freekick which was hit by Menendo Rebustillo. Basajaun Valencina made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kepa Quintero in the 84th minute. 90 minutes had been played when some careless play by Salitre's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Henric Cardillo was slow to take the kick. During this time Sporting Cristal's players had a chance to rest. Ladislao Ricoy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 92nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Sporting Cristal lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
