An unexpectedly hard shot by Bartolo Basualdo in the 39th minute of play forced CON-E-CO's goalkeeper Bibiano Barbosa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 41 minutes into the match, Deportivo Popolizio FBC's Bartolo Basualdo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Bibiano Barbosa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 42 minutes had been played when some careless play by CON-E-CO's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Cris Ronaldo was slow to take the kick. During this time Deportivo Popolizio FBC's players had a chance to rest. Bartolo Basualdo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Hermann Hesse made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Servando Ariste in the 47th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

CON-E-CO's Toti Iglesias was substituted for Servando Ariste. Toti Iglesias sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Tibor Nyilasi might have been able to make a better finish in the 69th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Bibiano Barbosa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tibor Nyilasi ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tibor Nyilasi got free with Bibiano Barbosa in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. CON-E-CO's Bibiano Barbosa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 71st minute of the match, managed to save CON-E-CO from getting a goal against them. 73 minutes into the match, Deportivo Popolizio FBC's goal looked a bit too open when Toti Iglesias came free, but Hermann Hesse reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
