The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ur Regules during the 47th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Guayaquil F.C. booed when Barcelona was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ur Regules didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Romeo Surco stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edgar Hortiz got free with Vedillo Ezquierdo in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 58th minute, Guayaquil F.C.'s Edgar Hortiz ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Vedillo Ezquierdo. In the 87th minute, Edgar Hortiz got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 91 minutes into the match, Barcelona's Romeo Surco sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gilmar Tumiraos narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Barcelona's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
