Ariel Vitoria took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rafael Arguiso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 13 minutes into the match, CD Cartagena's Urti Helguero sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Xuaco Abarca narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Urti Helguero received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 19th minute. Xuaco Abarca tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 20th minute, Castillo Espinar got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Castillo Espinar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Castillo Espinar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Xuaco Abarca tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 32 minutes, Castillo Espinar managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. CD Cartagena's supporters crossed their fingers, but Castillo Espinar was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Urti Helguero struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Xuaco Abarca didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for CD Cartagena. Castillo Espinar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Xuaco Abarca tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rafael Arguiso was the one to do the kick off. Johnny Figueira kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. Urti Helguero sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Castillo Espinar did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 0-1 to the left of a surprised Xuaco Abarca 56 minutes into the match. After some careless play in the CD Cartagena defense, Johnny Figueira kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ariel Vitoria. The CD Cartagena fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ariel Vitoria should have stopped the shot. Manolo Laso was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 64 minutes into the match. In a very dangerous position, a player in CD Cartagena fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 64th minute. Penalty! In the 66th minute there was a penalty for UD Azucar. España Mendes stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Ariel Vitoria. 2-1. In the 73rd minute, Johnny Figueira ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ariel Vitoria was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. The audience thought a goal was coming when Castillo Espinar got free with Xuaco Abarca in the 77th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rafael Arguiso in the 78th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ariel Vitoria saved CD Cartagena from getting behind. 80 minutes into the match, CD Cartagena's goal looked a bit too open when Rafael Arguiso came free, but Ariel Vitoria reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. UD Azucar's Rafael Arguiso got a good chance for a goal in the 82nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rafael Arguiso fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ariel Vitoria having to interfere. The supporters of UD Azucar booed when CD Cartagena was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Santo Morais didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rafael Arguiso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Ariel Vitoria tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
