The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Videl Valdeliso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zeru Conti, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Anangonó Jaen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Videl Valdeliso having to interfere. In the 12thth minute of the game Ferrer Fito who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Tristeza's Videl Valdeliso was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ferrer Fito struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Videl Valdeliso didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Independiente de Quito. Moises Eradi's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Vasco Codina firmly grabbed it by the left post. 22 minutes into the match, Independiente de Quito's goal looked a bit too open when Gustavo Torrealba came free, but Vasco Codina reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Viteri Urquiaga received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Videl Valdeliso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With his leg Vasco Codina managed to avoid a goal in the 32ndth minute, when Tristeza's Moises Eradi fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 38th minute of the game, Loco Surga landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Cristian Turiel during the 38th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Independiente de Quito booed when Tristeza was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cristian Turiel didn't get a good kick on the ball. Videl Valdeliso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anangonó Jaen in the 42nd minute of the match. Videl Valdeliso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zeru Conti in the 45th minute of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

52 minutes into the game, Ferrer Fito was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Independiente de Quito's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Tristeza the free kick. A collision led to Independiente de Quito getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Ferrer Fito hit a great ball. Anangonó Jaen struck a weak shot in the 57th minute. Independiente de Quito's Zeru Conti got a good chance for a goal in the 64th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Santos Albarellos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Videl Valdeliso having to interfere. 70 minutes into the match, Paredes Villaseñor notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Independiente de Quito's Vasco Codina. Vasco Codina was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Ferrer Fito was shown his second yellow card after 73 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After 73 played minutes Independiente de Quito got a freekick which was hit by Ferrer Fito. If Zeru Conti had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gustavo Torrealba scored 2-0 in the 91st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Vasco Codina, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Tristeza were victorious despite being under pressure from Independiente de Quito for much of the match.
