Blanco Orejas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Anangonó Jaen in the 6th minute of the match. 7 minutes into the match, Independiente de Quito's goal looked a bit too open when Ferrer Balaunde came free, but Vasco Codina reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Independiente de Quito getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Anangonó Jaen hit a great ball. In the 11th match minute, Independiente de Quito was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Xanti Francia to maneuver through the defense. Zambrano Juanes took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 12th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Vasco Codina. Independiente de Quito's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Washington Gorbea in the 13th minute of play forced Independiente de Quito's goalkeeper Vasco Codina to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Washington Gorbea had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 16th minute, Yiyo Ratra hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 25 minutes into the game, Luzuriaga Teijeira was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Dundee UTD's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Independiente de Quito the free kick. A collision led to Dundee UTD getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Luzuriaga Teijeira hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 29th minute, Ferrer Fito managed to get in a good position for a shot. Independiente de Quito's supporters rose to their feet, but Ferrer Fito was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Blanco Orejas breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in Independiente de Quito's zone, Aurelio Bosch stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Vasco Codina came out of the goal and Aurelio Bosch tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 34thth minute of the game Torres Socobio who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Independiente de Quito's Vasco Codina was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Vasco Codina didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Washington Gorbea went, in the 40th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Torres Socobio made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ferrer Fito in the 53rd minute of play forced Dundee UTD's goalkeeper Blanco Orejas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Torres Socobio could shoot a difficult shot in the 62nd minute, which Vasco Codina however easily saved by the left post. After 63 played minutes, Dundee UTD's Paulo Tineo shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Vasco Codina came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Dundee UTD reached it. Vasco Codina made an important save on a dangerous shot by Torres Socobio in the 67th minute. In the 73rd minute Washington Gorbea shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vasco Codina saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Washington Gorbea had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Santos Albarellos fell near the penalty area in the 75th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Independiente de Quito's protests and gave Santos Albarellos a yellow card for diving instead. Santos Albarellos kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. Vasco Codina made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Washington Gorbea in the 82nd minute of play. 85 minutes into the game, Anangonó Jaen cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Blanco Orejas was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a rather tough play, Dundee UTD's Aurelio Bosch got a free kick in the 94th minute. After 95 played minutes Dundee UTD got a freekick which was hit by Ferrer Balaunde. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Dundee UTD had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
