With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ferrer Fito in the 9th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nando Torralbo saved Carnot from getting behind. 16 minutes into the game, Chico Carabajo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Carnot's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Independiente de Quito the free kick. In the 16th minute, Chico Carabajo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Viteri Urquiaga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Chico Carabajo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 24th minute the ball was on its way in behind Independiente de Quito's goalkeeper Vasco Codina, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Carnot's Nando Torralbo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Anangonó Jaen in the 30th minute of play. 34 minutes into the game, Estevez Blanch was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Independiente de Quito's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Carnot the free kick. The supporters of Carnot booed when Independiente de Quito was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Estevez Blanch didn't get a good kick on the ball. Chico Carabajo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vasco Codina having to interfere. Vasco Codina took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Chico Carabajo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 44th minute Anangonó Jaen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nando Torralbo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 46th match minute, Independiente de Quito was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Anangonó Jaen to maneuver through the defense. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Chico Carabajo to make the kick off. Carnot's Macias Piñango couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 55th minute. Angel Lizaso recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Chico Carabajo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nando Torralbo made a fantastic save in the 65th minute, when Ferrer Fito sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of Carnot booed when Independiente de Quito was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Estevez Blanch didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vasco Codina showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Chico Carabajo, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. 75 minutes into the match, Carnot's goal looked a bit too open when Anangonó Jaen came free, but Nando Torralbo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 78th minute, Anangonó Jaen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Chico Carabajo in the 80th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Vasco Codina prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 82nd minute of the game Fidel Alcedo made a throw-in which Angel Lizaso played forward. 84 minutes into the game, Anangonó Jaen was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Independiente de Quito's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Carnot the free kick. The supporters of Carnot booed when Independiente de Quito was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anangonó Jaen didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 85th minute, Ferrer Fito hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 88 minutes into the match, Carnot's goalkeeper Nando Torralbo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ferrer Fito. If Chico Carabajo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Independiente de Quito's Vasco Codina played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chico Carabajo in the 96th minute of play. Independiente de Quito succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Carnot had controlled the match.
