Juan Cervantez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cleto Viego in the 10th minute of play. Cleto Viego received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Juan Cervantez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cleto Viego in the 20th minute of play forced Real Madrid's goalkeeper Juan Cervantez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eguntsenti Morillas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tajo Chavarri in the 27th minute of the match. 30 minutes into the match, Real Madrid's Efren Caso sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Eguntsenti Morillas narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Efren Caso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Eguntsenti Morillas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Efren Caso managed to get in a good position for a shot. Eguntsenti Morillas breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cleto Viego struck a weak shot in the 37th minute. Juan Cervantez didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mexico. After 40 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Herminio Igay. Eguntsenti Morillas came out of the goal in the 43rd minute to try and stop a shot by Real Madrid's Efren Caso. But to his dismay, Efren Caso quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. When Baldovino Tigero fell near the penalty area in the 45th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Mexico's protests and gave Baldovino Tigero a yellow card for diving instead. In the 45th match minute, Mexico was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Baldovino Tigero to maneuver through the defense. Real Madrid's Efren Caso got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cleto Viego stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Cleto Viego had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cleto Viego hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match.
