The supporters of Manchester united booed when Once Caldas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gaizkine Barreneche didn't get a good kick on the ball. Manchester united's Galsino Arrascarate got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 20 minutes, Galsino Arrascarate managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Atauri Quer recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Galsino Arrascarate in the 40th minute of play forced Once Caldas's goalkeeper Guillelmo Arbe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Galsino Arrascarate had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

After some careless play in the Once Caldas defense, Galsino Arrascarate kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Guillelmo Arbe. The Once Caldas fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Guillelmo Arbe should have stopped the shot. When the referee ended the match the Manchester united players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
