The referee showed Rodney Saboya the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Universidad del Zulia booed when Maurica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rodney Saboya didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sengrat Aballe in the 10th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lekubegi Busvidad prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Joao Bergas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dimo Payon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rai Casavela in the 14th minute of play. In the 18th minute, Ciceron Verdugo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Dimo Payon was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Universidad del Zulia's Rai Casavela got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Maurica booed when Universidad del Zulia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Federico Botella didn't get a good kick on the ball. Quintan Acaron was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 27th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. In the 29thth minute of the game Rodney Saboya who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Universidad del Zulia's Lekubegi Busvidad was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Dimo Payon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ciceron Verdugo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 34th minute Rodney Saboya shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lekubegi Busvidad saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Universidad del Zulia's Federico Botella got a free kick in the 34th minute. In the 37th minute, Rodney Saboya reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Lekubegi Busvidad. The goal made the score 1-1. After a rather tough play, Maurica's Manoel Somellera got a free kick in the 40th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

After 60 played minutes Universidad del Zulia got a freekick which was hit by Federico Botella. In the 61st minute, Quintan Acaron sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Universidad del Zulia's Lekubegi Busvidad didn't even have to move. Maurica's Sengrat Aballe managed to work through Universidad del Zulia's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Sengrat Aballe dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. Rodney Saboya's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lekubegi Busvidad read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 73rd minute of play. Sengrat Aballe fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lekubegi Busvidad having to interfere. Sengrat Aballe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 78 minutes into the match, Universidad del Zulia's goal looked a bit too open when Sengrat Aballe came free, but Lekubegi Busvidad reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ciceron Verdugo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dimo Payon having to interfere. In the 87th minute, Rodney Saboya left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Maurica fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1.
