Estudiantes De Merida's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Marinos the free kick. 43 minutes into the match, Estudiantes De Merida's goal looked a bit too open when Quinito Barrionuevo came free, but Txeru Barrio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Fidencio Torriba was the one to do the kick off. In the 88th match minute, Estudiantes De Merida was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Viator Calviño to maneuver through the defense.
