After a rather tough play, Estudiantes de Merida FC's Afonso Naveda got a free kick in the 11th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Pierre Kooij managed to get in a good position for a shot. Zulia F.C's supporters rose to their feet, but Pierre Kooij was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bambang Sagala breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Zulia F.C's Romeo Trigueros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emiliano Lesardo in the 21st minute of play. After 22 minutes Zulia F.C's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Maicon Brodel who took care of the corner kick. After a rather tough play, Estudiantes de Merida FC's Afonso Naveda got a free kick in the 23rd minute. After having played for 26 minutes, Pawel Dybala managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Zulia F.C's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pawel Dybala was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Honorio Lario's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Romeo Trigueros firmly grabbed it by the left post. Romeo Trigueros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Emiliano Lesardo in the 35th minute of play. Bambang Sagala showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pierre Kooij, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Emiliano Lesardo in the 38th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Romeo Trigueros prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Pierre Kooij recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 44 minutes into the match, Zulia F.C's goalkeeper Romeo Trigueros had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Emiliano Lesardo. After some careless play in the Zulia F.C defense, Emiliano Lesardo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Romeo Trigueros. The Zulia F.C fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Romeo Trigueros should have stopped the shot. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The wind increased when Pawel Dybala made the kick off in the second half. In the 54th match minute, Estudiantes de Merida FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ove Lekberg to maneuver through the defense. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Emiliano Lesardo in the 57th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Romeo Trigueros saved Zulia F.C from getting behind. Romeo Trigueros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Claudinei Canido in the 60th minute of play. Romeo Trigueros took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emiliano Lesardo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lapurdi Palomino hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. In the 94thth minute of the game Marcelino Quinten who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Zulia F.C's Romeo Trigueros was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Bladimir Morales made a great header on Estudiantes de Merida FC's corner, it was just that Zulia F.C's Romeo Trigueros managed to reach the ball for a save. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Estudiantes de Merida FC fully deserved thier win.
