The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Monte Finney stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kirk Chappelle's shot from short distance in the 4th minute. Pete Kendrick sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Wellston's zone, Kirk Chappelle stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Monte Finney came out of the goal and Kirk Chappelle tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 90 minutes into the match, Wellston's goal looked a bit too open when Bennett Mohr came free, but Monte Finney reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Pete Kendrick sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Wellston getting a freekick after 96 minutes play. Bradley Eason hit a great ball. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Michigan City had won after a very even match.
