The supporters of Grover City booed when Chicago Pierogi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wade Rucker didn't get a good kick on the ball. Brian Velasco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pete Miller having to interfere. Kory Eason sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. If Brian Velasco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Chicago Pierogi's Ronnie Boyd got a good chance for a goal in the 20th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ronnie Boyd received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Hal Ryan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Pierre Handy's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Hal Ryan read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. In the 27th minute, Tracy Acevedo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Grover City fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. When Kory Eason came up free with the goalie in the 30th minute, the Grover City fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kory Eason couldn't finish the play. The corner ended in Elvis Yang almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Grover City's Hal Ryan did a great save. Kory Eason blasted a shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Pete Miller having to make a save. In the 67th minute Ronnie Boyd shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hal Ryan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Grover City's Kory Eason got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Brian Velasco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Chicago Pierogi's Pete Miller played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Brian Velasco in the 79th minute of play. Brian Velasco took the ball and in the 82 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Pete Miller. Pete Miller dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. After 88 minutes, Tracy Acevedo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Grover City and the Chicago Pierogi players grew even worse after the yellow card. If Ronnie Boyd had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. There was no doubt that Grover City were the better team. Grover City's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
