Luther Mott started the match with the kick off. Lawrence Hargrove hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. A collision led to Chicago Fire getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Elias Boyd hit a great ball. After 19 played minutes Supersport United FC got a freekick which was hit by DeAndre Noble. When Denver Mercado came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Supersport United FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Denver Mercado couldn't finish the play. If Daren Tackett had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 31 played minutes Chicago Fire got a freekick which was hit by Luther Mott. In the 32nd match minute, Chicago Fire was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luther Mott to maneuver through the defense. Denver Mercado struck a weak shot in the 35th minute. Mervin Silver didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Supersport United FC. Supersport United FC's Petru Dumitrescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Damon Douglas in the 38th minute of play. After the first half Chicago Fire were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Denver Mercado made the kick off in the second half. Adolfo Alfaro hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. In the 54th match minute, Chicago Fire was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rene Whittington to maneuver through the defense. Chicago Fire's Mervin Silver played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Denver Mercado in the 56th minute of play. Petru Dumitrescu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Damon Douglas in the 63rd minute of the match. Denver Mercado took the ball and in the 65 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Mervin Silver. Mervin Silver dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. In the 68thth minute of the game Denver Mercado who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Chicago Fire's Mervin Silver was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Chicago Fire's Rene Whittington couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Supersport United FC. Mervin Silver showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Denver Mercado in the 75th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Supersport United FC's Lawrence Hargrove got a free kick in the 87th minute. In the 90th minute Luther Mott shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Petru Dumitrescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luther Mott recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 91st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Chicago Fire had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
