Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 29th minute the ball was on its way in behind Detroit Lakes FC's goalkeeper Alfred Lehman, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When the match clock showed 33 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Duane Toney sped through Hondo AFC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Lyle Peralta. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eliseo Looney in the 36th minute of play forced Hondo AFC's goalkeeper Lyle Peralta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

52 minutes into the match, Hondo AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Eliseo Looney came free, but Lyle Peralta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 57thth minute of the game Eliseo Looney who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hondo AFC's Lyle Peralta was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Darrell Mueller hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. In the 59th match minute, Detroit Lakes FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kurtis Craig to maneuver through the defense. Lyle Peralta was a little too slow when Eliseo Looney got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 63rd minute. The score was now 0-3. When Kurtis Craig came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Detroit Lakes FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kurtis Craig couldn't finish the play. Oren Malone succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-4 in the 69th playminute. After some fancy dribbling in the 73rd minute, Oren Malone managed to get in a good position for a shot. Detroit Lakes FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Oren Malone was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lyle Peralta breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Lyle Peralta took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eliseo Looney, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Manuel Bynum had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alfred Lehman didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Hondo AFC.
