After some fancy dribbling in the 32nd minute, Rudolf Poe managed to get in a good position for a shot. Wilmer FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Rudolf Poe was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hans Phipps breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 34 minutes, Art Farr managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Wilmer FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Art Farr was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Carlos Griffin's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Calvin Godfrey read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 38th minute of play. Carlos Griffin recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Rudolf Poe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Rudolf Poe to strike the kick off in the second half. If Art Farr had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Francis Bocanegra kicked well hit freekick during the 54th minute of the match. In the 55th minute of the match Wilbur Fairchild sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Hans Phipps skillfully saved the ball. Silas Herndon kicked well hit freekick during the 58th minute of the match. Art Farr could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but Hans Phipps made a huge save. Rudolf Poe was extremely unlucky when he, in the 62nd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. 64 minutes into the match, Wilmer FC's goal looked a bit too open when Carlos Griffin came free, but Calvin Godfrey reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rudolf Poe in the 76th minute of play forced United States's goalkeeper Hans Phipps to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hans Phipps showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Collin Sands in the 83rd minute of the match. The supporters of Wilmer FC booed when United States was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Francis Bocanegra didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Silas Herndon was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 86 minutes had been played. In the 87th minute, Silas Herndon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 88 minutes, Art Farr managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Wilmer FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Art Farr was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Rudolf Poe in the 91st play minute got the chance to kick a hard shot on goal from short distance neither the defense or Hans Phipps kept up with the ball and suddenly the score was 0-1 when the ball slipped into goal inside the left pole. Wilmer FC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
