Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 6 played minutes Shively AFC got a freekick which was hit by Keith Kendrick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Emerson Abbott in the 13th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Garrett Groves prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Emerson Abbott had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 20 minutes of play, Shively AFC's Genaro Luther made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Roy Hopper was left in no man's land by his defense there! 24 minutes into the game, Benjamin Flaherty was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Shively AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Lake Sarasota the free kick. Gordon Burroughs struck a weak shot in the 25th minute. Garrett Groves didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Lake Sarasota. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Emerson Abbott managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lake Sarasota's supporters rose to their feet, but Emerson Abbott was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Garrett Groves breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gordon Burroughs received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Garrett Groves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 33rd match minute, Shively AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Keith Kendrick to maneuver through the defense. Monty Stanford scored 1-1 in the 36th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Garrett Groves, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. A collision led to Shively AFC getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Marc Bonilla hit a great ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Garrett Groves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gordon Burroughs, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. During the 67th minute of the match Benjamin Flaherty completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Benjamin Flaherty a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. After 68 played minutes Shively AFC got a freekick which was hit by Benjamin Flaherty. 74 minutes into the match, Lake Sarasota's goalkeeper Roy Hopper had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rupert Hurley. Shively AFC's Genaro Luther got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gordon Burroughs received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Garrett Groves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 87th minute the ball was on its way in behind Shively AFC's goalkeeper Garrett Groves, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Shively AFC's Keith Kendrick got a free kick in the 88th minute. With his leg Roy Hopper managed to avoid a goal in the 92ndth minute, when Shively AFC's Rupert Hurley fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side.
