Waldo Meier didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Hal Slater went, in the 29th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Hal Slater blasted a shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Waldo Meier having to make a save. After 34 played minutes New Brunswick got a freekick which was hit by Ismael Farley. Spencer Bower fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Waldo Meier having to interfere. After a rather tough play, New Brunswick's Ismael Farley got a free kick in the 39th minute. 40 minutes into the match, New Brunswick's goal looked a bit too open when Hal Slater came free, but Waldo Meier reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in New Brunswick's zone, Van Countess stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Waldo Meier came out of the goal and Van Countess tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Waldo Meier took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Spencer Bower, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dexter Savage was the one to do the kick off. The supporters of New Brunswick booed when Irwin AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position.
