But to his dismay, Rudy Gann quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 22nd minute of the game. One of Waycross:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Linton FC:s goal. Avery Burnham took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rudy Gann, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The corner ended in Merle Wilson almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Waycross's Avery Burnham did a great save. When Rudy Gann came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the Linton FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rudy Gann couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Linton FC getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Merle Wilson hit a great ball. A hard shot by Denny Crow from long distance, 48 minutes into the match, got Everett Otto's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. The Waycross players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Linton FC were winning 1-2.

The Linton FC players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
