Vandergrift's supporters rose to their feet, but Simon Coleman was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. James Downs breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Randall Britt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Willard Berger received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Ernie Engel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Vandergrift getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Milan Goldsmith hit a great ball. Willard Berger struck a weak shot in the 16th minute. Ernie Engel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Lamoni. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Allan Cochran in the 22nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ernie Engel prevented the ball from getting in the gole. James Downs made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Randall Britt in the 23rd minute of play. Allan Cochran might have been able to make a better finish in the 27th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ernie Engel. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Allan Cochran ran back to his position shaking his head. Willard Berger scored 0-1 in the 27th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ernie Engel, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. A hard shot by Milan Goldsmith from long distance, 32 minutes into the match, got James Downs's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. In the 32nd match minute, Lamoni was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ezra Corley to maneuver through the defense. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Willard Berger couldn't finish the play. Adam Cochran's late challenge caught a Lamoni's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. In the 46th minute, Allan Cochran got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Vandergrift's Ernie Engel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Allan Cochran in the 58th minute of play. In the 74th minute, Allan Cochran hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 76 minutes into the game, Vandergrift's Adam Cochran nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. James Downs made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Allan Cochran in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ernie Engel saved Vandergrift from getting behind. In the 82nd minute, Fernando Henson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lamoni's James Downs played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Simon Coleman in the 93rd minute of play. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Lamoni eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
