The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Joel Farrar stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Theron Traylor's shot from short distance in the 5th minute. Los Angeles's Theron Traylor got a good chance for a goal in the 6th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Kenhorst getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Donald Driver hit a great ball. Ruben Lauret received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 9th minute. Joel Farrar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 13th minute, Theron Traylor ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Joel Farrar was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Johnson Gipson struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Joel Farrar didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Los Angeles. The audience was convinced that Theron Traylor's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Joel Farrar was relentless in the 28th minute of the game. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Theron Traylor in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Joel Farrar saved Kenhorst from getting behind. Theron Traylor sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. If Theron Traylor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kenhorst's Joel Farrar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Don Ervin in the 46th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Murray Hannah to make the kick off. Joel Farrar showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Theron Traylor, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. Theron Traylor recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Kenhorst getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Johnson Kurtz hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Murray Hannah in the 68th minute of play forced Los Angeles's goalkeeper Pompiliu Filipașcu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 71 minutes into the match, Kenhorst's goalkeeper Joel Farrar had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by German Fuentes. Theron Traylor could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 73rd minute of the match, but Joel Farrar made a huge save. After 74th play minutes Theron Traylor shot 0-3, a short shot which went by Joel Farrar and just under the crossbar into goal. Donald Driver hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. Los Angeles's Genaro Guzman was substituted for Don Ervin. After 79 played minutes Kenhorst got a freekick which was hit by Donald Driver. After 81st play minutes Theron Traylor shot 0-4, a short shot which went by Joel Farrar and just under the crossbar into goal. After 86 played minutes Kenhorst got a freekick which was hit by Donald Driver. Los Angeles's Freddy Gates was substituted for Ruben Lauret. Donald Driver hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. After having played for 88 minutes, Theron Traylor managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Los Angeles's supporters crossed their fingers, but Theron Traylor was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Theron Traylor fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joel Farrar having to interfere. If Theron Traylor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When the match was over Los Angeles could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Kenhorst throughout the match.
