The Akatsuki FC fans' excitement grew in the 19th match minute when Akatsuki FC's Francesco Sheppard looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. South Plainfield's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Akatsuki FC the free kick. Teodoro Reese took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rolf Spaulding, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Bart Walton made an important save on a dangerous shot by Douglas Pugh in the 31st minute. Francesco Sheppard received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Bart Walton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Caleb Fraser's late challenge caught a South Plainfield's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Caleb Fraser helped the player get up and apologised. Rolf Spaulding's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Teodoro Reese read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 46th minute of play.

Dan Quintana blasted a shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Teodoro Reese having to make a save. In the 84th minute of the match, Rolf Spaulding tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Teodoro Reese saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Akatsuki FC's Francesco Sheppard got a good chance for a goal in the 97th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 97 minutes into the match, Douglas Pugh notched a goal, 3-2, to the right of South Plainfield's Bart Walton. Bart Walton was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
