Caleb Alden sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rueben Sutherland came out and tried to block the shot, but Monte Roberson slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 18th minute. Rueben Sutherland showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Monte Roberson in the 29th minute of the match. French Island's Rueben Sutherland played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Monte Roberson in the 31st minute of play. In the 33rd match minute, French Island was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sidney Slaughter to maneuver through the defense. If Monte Roberson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 38th minute, Shelby Hurd got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 40th minute Monte Roberson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rueben Sutherland saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Derrick Grove had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 43 minutes, Monte Roberson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Kalkaska's supporters crossed their fingers, but Monte Roberson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Monte Roberson to strike the kick off in the second half. Monte Roberson ran back to his position shaking his head. Shelby Hurd fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rueben Sutherland having to interfere. After 65th play minutes Monte Roberson shot 3-0, a short shot which went by Rueben Sutherland and just under the crossbar into goal. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Monte Roberson couldn't finish the play. 86 minutes into the match, Kalkaska's Shelby Hurd sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rueben Sutherland narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
