Bo Albert came out of the goal and Darryl Strickland tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 27th match minute, Rockton was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Thurman Mohr to maneuver through the defense. In the 30th match minute, Rockton was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Domingo Goddard to maneuver through the defense. Douglas Loyd made a fantastic save in the 32nd minute, when Marcus Vinson sent off a good shot on target. If Everett Miller had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 38 minutes into the match, Hawthorne FC's goal looked a bit too open when Thurman Mohr came free, but Bo Albert reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Bo Albert made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Everett Miller in the 42nd minute of play. Hawthorne FC's Ray Plummer managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Domingo Goddard in the 45 minute of the game.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Marcus Vinson was the one to do the kick off. After 57 minutes, Marcus Vinson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Hawthorne FC and the Rockton players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 58th minute, Ray Plummer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Hawthorne FC's Bo Albert played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Darryl Strickland in the 61st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Scott Engel in the 62nd minute of play forced Hawthorne FC's goalkeeper Bo Albert to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Rockton defense, Marcus Vinson kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Douglas Loyd. The Rockton fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Douglas Loyd should have stopped the shot. After 71 minutes of play, Rockton's Everett Miller made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Bo Albert was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 74th minute, Scot Lancaster got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Hawthorne FC booed when Rockton was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aidan Peoples didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Rockton's Scott Engel got a free kick in the 82nd minute. Rockton's Douglas Loyd played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcus Vinson in the 83rd minute of play. In the 89th minute, Jarvis Roman hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rockton's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Hawthorne FC had won, even though Rockton had held more of the ball.
