Match Report

Swarthmore
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0)
The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Rick Cano took the kick off in the first half of the match. 3 minutes into the game, Joey Zeigler was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Massapequa's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Swarthmore AFC the free kick. In the 3rd match minute, Massapequa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joey Zeigler to maneuver through the defense. Connor Reynolds recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 9th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Swarthmore AFC's Fabian Kent played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Napoleon Ulrich in the 11th minute of play. 12 minutes into the match, Massapequa's Connor Reynolds sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Fabian Kent narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Rick Cano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ezra Bowen having to interfere. If Connor Reynolds had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Swarthmore AFC's Alexis Ruth got a free kick in the 17th minute. Swarthmore AFC's Fabian Kent played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Connor Reynolds in the 19th minute of play. Connor Reynolds scored 0-1 in the 22nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Fabian Kent, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Connor Reynolds had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 28 played minutes Swarthmore AFC got a freekick which was hit by Ronnie Grace. Hugo Pruitt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fabian Kent stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Connor Reynolds's shot from short distance in the 44th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Connor Reynolds in the 47th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Fabian Kent prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

MVP
Rick Cano

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Connor Reynolds made a kick off. In the 51st minute Hugo Pruitt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ezra Bowen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Connor Reynolds sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience was convinced that Connor Reynolds's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fabian Kent was relentless in the 61st minute of the game. 63 minutes into the match, Swarthmore AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Connor Reynolds came free, but Fabian Kent reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Rick Cano came up free with the goalie in the 64th minute, the Swarthmore AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rick Cano couldn't finish the play. In the 67th match minute, Swarthmore AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ronnie Grace to maneuver through the defense. Ezra Bowen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rick Cano in the 70th minute of play. After 72 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Massapequa! The referee gave Swarthmore AFC a penalty, 74 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Rupert Bain, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Massapequa's Ezra Bowen. 1-1. If Napoleon Ulrich had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rick Cano in the 81st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ezra Bowen saved Massapequa from getting behind. 88 minutes into the match, Rick Cano notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Massapequa's Ezra Bowen. Ezra Bowen was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 92nd minute, Napoleon Ulrich fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. If Connor Reynolds had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Swarthmore AFC fans cheered their team off the field, for while Massapequa had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
