Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Dominic Thomson kicked off to start the match. A collision led to Lathrop getting a freekick after 3 minutes play. Chris Whitney hit a great ball. Dante Ramirez recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 4th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Dominic Thomson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Lathrop booed when Ruidoso was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Garth Barger didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lathrop's attentive Kirk Sherrill managed to snatch the ball when Mel Denson made a throw-in in the 13th minute of the game. A collision led to Lathrop getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Lucien Hunter hit a great ball. If Bryant Goodman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marcellus Tran made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bryant Goodman in the 25th minute of play. Antony West received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Marcellus Tran tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Ruidoso's Bryant Goodman got a free kick in the 30th minute. Ruidoso's Charles Cassidy played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dominic Thomson in the 31st minute of play. When Garth Barger fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ruidoso's protests and gave Garth Barger a yellow card for diving instead. Dominic Thomson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charles Cassidy having to interfere. After 37 minutes, Kirk Sherrill mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lathrop and the Ruidoso players grew even worse after the yellow card. A hard shot by Mel Denson from long distance, 43 minutes into the match, got Marcellus Tran's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Dominic Thomson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Charles Cassidy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bryant Goodman to make the kick off. 57 minutes into the game, Markus McDaniel was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Lathrop's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ruidoso the free kick. After 57 played minutes Lathrop got a freekick which was hit by Markus McDaniel. In the 63rd minute, Mel Denson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some careless play in the Lathrop defense, Bryant Goodman kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Marcellus Tran. The Lathrop fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marcellus Tran should have stopped the shot. Garth Barger kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 76th minute, Dominic Thomson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lathrop's supporters rose to their feet, but Dominic Thomson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Charles Cassidy breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Bryant Goodman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Marcellus Tran tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Marcellus Tran showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bryant Goodman, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. Lathrop's Markus McDaniel got his second yellow card of the match in the 88th minute. The referee ordered Markus McDaniel off the ground. Leroy Moon hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. Lathrop's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
