After taking down the ball on Edwardsville's corner Joseph Hendrickson fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Rigoberto Dawkins quite easily take care of the ball. The audience was convinced that Werner Sylvester's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rigoberto Dawkins was relentless in the 20th minute of the game. 1-1 became the score in the 22nd minute when Lyle Fleming elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. After 27 played minutes Detroit FC got a freekick which was hit by Joey Cano. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Reed Deering in the 32nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rigoberto Dawkins prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 34th minute, Reed Deering ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Rigoberto Dawkins was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. A collision led to Edwardsville getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Earl Wiley hit a great ball. 43 minutes into the game, one of Edwardsville:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Edward Cowan charged in rather forcefully in the 64th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 82 minutes into the match, Edwardsville's Reed Deering sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rigoberto Dawkins narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Lyle Fleming sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out.
